Background: This is Quirkbots first official lesson plan. We are currently working with a network of Swedish and International Schools around the world to produce educational content for the Strawbees and Quirkbot ecosystem. This lesson plan was developed by educator Andrew Agafonov from the International School of Stavropol, Russia. It is the first one in a series of lesson plans that will be released here during the spring of 2016.
LESSON PLAN ABSTRACT
Brief: Learn about the Strawbees Quirkbot. Study the vocabulary needed for building. Strawbees – try it yourself! Build your first robotic creature that can move (StriderBot). At the end there will be a race (first to cross finish line). Get inspiration from #quirkbot for further projects.
Purpose: Generate interest for the project, team-building, creativity and fun.
Time frame: 40 min
Group size: 4-12 people
Facilitation level: Intermediate
Materials: 4-6 Quirkbot kits, 4-6 prepared strawbees servo mounts and motors, scissors, additional/decorative building materials (optional)
- Charge all Quirkbots. You need 1 Quirkbot per 2 people + a few extra ones. - Make sure all Quirkbots have the default program11 in them.
- Pre-build Strawbees servo mounts and add 2-legged strawbee to servo arm and screw onto servo in the position where the arm and motor are aligned at 90 degrees.
